Understand the idea

Attachment activation can make an indirect bid feel safer than a direct one. You may hint, test, withdraw or repeat a question. A clearer request names what you know and what would help, while allowing the other person to answer honestly.

For example: ‘We stopped talking after the disagreement and I feel unsettled. Could we set a time tomorrow to come back to it?’ This asks for a concrete repair step. It does not require the other person to prove love or abandon their own limits.

Sometimes a request is refused. That is information about fit, capacity or willingness, not automatically a verdict on your worth. If your safety depends on how someone reacts, do not use a scripted request as a confrontation exercise. Seek support and plan safely.

Reflect privately

Your reflections are yours; nothing is collected here. Skip anything that feels too much.

  • What would a reasonable request sound like in your own voice?
  • What boundary would you need if the answer were no?

Try it in a safe, low-stakes moment: Draft one short request for a low-stakes situation using an observation, a feeling or need, and a specific ask.

Notice what you did, what happened and what you might change next time. You may use paper, keep it in mind or skip the activity. This page does not collect your answer.
